Malaga, Spain is preparing to welcome back 17 cruise ships to its shores in September. AIDAstella was the first one to reach the port of Malaga and other sister ships will be visiting throughout the month.

The tourism sector expects to get a boost with this new batch of cruise ships considering that the city only received 10 vessels during the entire summer; 5 in August, 3 in July and 2 in June.

AIDAstella and AIDAperla reached the Malaga Port on Sept. 2, and 7, being the first international cruise ships visiting the warm city in Spain’s Costa del Sol (Sun Coast) this month.

Fred Olsen’s Borealis, Marella cruises’ Marella Explorer and Viking Ocean Cruises’ Viking Sky are expected to arrive on September 15.

Sept. 30 will probably be the biggest day for the cruise ship and hospitality industry in Malaga and nearby cities when Grand Circle Cruise Line’s Clio and Mystic Cruises’ World Navigator, as well as the P&O’s Iona and TUI Cruises’ Mein Schiff 3 dock at the port.

Other companies resuming cruise trips to Malaga are Costa Cruises and MSC Cruises in the last week of September.

COVID- 19 Protocols

Safety is the biggest priority in the cruise ship industry. All cruise lines have committed to strictly follow the protocols approved by the Spanish’ health authorities plus the ones enforced by the cruise terminals in the city.

And the rest of the world? –  Full Steam Ahead!

The global cruise industry shows no signs of slowing down with the U.S. becoming the fastest-recovering market for cruise tourism.

Only in September the world will see more than 200 cruise ships sailing aboard.

This represents around 50 percent of the total ocean-going cruise fleet, according to data presented by the Cruise Ships in Service Report by Cruise Industry News – September Edition.

Among other good news, Royal Caribbean International’s Oasis of the Seas will be relaunched this month sailing out of the Cape Liberty Cruise Port, only 20-minute away from New York City.

Also, Costa Cruises’ Diadema and Fascinosa will resume operations from Savona, Italy. A city strategically located near Milan, Italy and Nice, France.
